Fortunately it s also very easy to prevent. You can now see the stain coming up through the paint. I am going to paint with bm advance and i am worried if i should continue. Older cabinets and vintage furniture are notorious for.
An oil based primer does have a strong smell and requires paint thinner for cleanup but it is the most reliable in blocking stains from knotty wood water or wood that naturally stains like redwood cedar and mahogany. So i sanded it and sprayed kilz primer and that did the trick. Break up the space between the counter and the cabinets by installing a pink hued tumbled. Well it came through the paint too.

I m not sure what to do next. To get the layered color look after the brown paint was dry i rubbed my wax block all along the edges of the dresser just on the areas i knew i would later want to distress. It s the wax that will allow me to sand through my white paint and not the brown as well that way it s the pretty brown that shows up in my distressed spots and not the gold or pink. I noticed some reddish brown dots it looked like something coming through from the primer.Now applied zinsser bullseye 123 and 2 coats of it and i see light yellow patches and the primer looks yellow rather than white. Sometimes the paint on kitchen cabinets peels behind closed doors literally. I sanded everything down prior to painting and wiped it all down. The stain or bleed through will be sealed and won t penetrate through your next coat of paint.
What does that mean. So i painted anyhow thinking the paint would cover the dots. You will see red or brown streaks coming through the chalk paint or regular paint. I have sanded them with 220 sandpaper and then deglossed with krud kutter gloss off.
Typically a mahogany stain is the worst culprit in chalk paint bleed through.
