How To Attach New Kitchen Cabinets To Each Other

Drill pilot holes in the cabinet frame and screw together with good wood screws.
Always secure the cabinets firmly to studs before loading them with their contents. Place the cleats back on the floor and drill pilot holes into the floor using the holes you created in the cleats as a guide. Sheet flooring is more easily. Drive 2 inch drywall screws through it and into every other stud.
Install the wood cleats drill pilot holes in the wood cleats before installing them. But it s just a preference we have. Use clamps to fix the stiles the vertical pieces on the face of the cabinet frames of the cabinets together and check for plumb making sure the fronts of the cabinets are flush. This is useful in the case of having no studs behind a narrow cabinet.
We hang them all then go back and align them and clamp the side rails together and use t nuts and screws to draw them in tight. When connecting two cabinets to each other line up the face frames and clamp them together. Unpack your kitchen units and place them loosely in the kitchen where they will be situated. Add a cabinet front so it doesn t break up the line of cabinetry under the counter.

We use the 8 32 size. Attach more cleats along the length of the line. From that line and draw another line for the bottom of the upper cabinets. Even better hide it with something as gorgeous as hardware free cabinets in a blush pink paint.
Set a straight 1x3 cleat alongside and just beneath the layout line for the upper cabinets. Secure cabinets to each other as well as the wall. Be sure to allow for the ears on the front of the cabinet. When you place the cabinet to the wall you ll know where the stud is.
Both cabinets should be fastened to the wall at this point but you may have to loosen one cabinet or the other to get the frames to line up perfectly. If you need to attach a cabinet to a side wall or adjacent cabinet just attached some spacers to the wall made of 2x4s and plywood to get the correct thickness then attach the cabinet to that. In some cases such as when forming a bank of upper cabinets above a peninsula or island the cabinets can be suspended from the ceiling or attached to overhanging soffits. Next drill the cabinets at top and bottom near to the front edge of the cabinet.
