How To Cut Kitchen Cabinet Hinges

Partial inset lipped doors have a rabbet notch cut into the outside edge of the door so that the door is partially inset into the cabinet opening.
Butt hinges are the most traditional type of hinge for full inset doors but many alternatives are available including soss hinges knife hinges and some types of european hinges. Using the right size drill bit you drill two holes one into the door and the other into the cabinet frame and insert the barrel hinges into them. Pull your chisel over the grooves to remove them. Center the holes and use a phillips screwdriver or screw gun on low torque setting.
Push down to apply a slight amount of force then pull the tool backward scraping the wood out of your mortise. Open the door and hold it open with one. Take down each hinge you plan on measuring and spread them across a flat surface. Repeat this until you ve removed the majority of the grooves.
