How To Finish Kitchen Cabinets Stain

To apply the stain use a rag and rub the stain into the wood going along with the grain.
Strip the cabinets optional. If dust is building up on the floor vacuum that up before you start staining. Sand between coats but not after the final coat. Apply the wood conditioner remove any dust and apply a coat of conditioner image 1.
Fold up one of your applicator rags into a square dip it into the polyurethane and rub the finish onto the cabinet surfaces. If you want to take the cabinets back to the original wood apply a clear varnish or polyurethane finish or stain previously painted cabinets you will have to strip all the paint off the cabinets using strong chemicals followed by sanding. Let the finish dry as directed. Use an electric hand sander with a heavier grit sandpaper for the first sanding.
Be sure to get rid of all the dust residue before moving on. If you want to stain your cupboards you can test various stain colors to get what you want on the back side of them that will be against the wall when installed. Courtesy of varathane once the stain dries apply clear finish over the area you sanded. Lightly sand all surfaces with 220 grit sandpaper and wipe off all sanding dust.
