For the second sanding use 220 grit sandpaper. Always sand in the direction of the wood grain. Sand your cabinets with 200 grit fine sandpaper to remove any peeling varnish and to roughen up the stained surfaces. After sanding apply a wood conditioner.
Use a rag to work stain down into the pores of the wood. Fill the sink with warm soapy water. Fill small cracks holes and dings with wood filler. Remove the cupboard doors and then remove all of the hardware on them.
Dispose of the staining rags by submerging in water in a steel bucket.
