Customer preference here s where the rules get thrown out the door when the customer has a personal preference as to where the cabinet handle should be installed.
A good rule of thumb is to center the hardware horizontally on the stile. This method of locating where to attach the hardware is not necessary a rule but it is a good starting place when trying to decide the kitchen cabinet hardware placement. On upper cabinets handles usually go in the lower corners so they are easy to reach. Attach a handle to a cabinet drawer.
Measure and mark the centre point on the front side of the drawer. Figure 1 shows some creativity as the pulls are mounted in the horizontal position on both drawers which would be the common method and on the doors which is definitely creative. On drawers and pull out cabinets knobs are typically centered on the drawer front. Check the marks are in the right position drill your holes.
Install the hardware in the proper location and your space will appear finished. Keep the template over the centre point and mark out the drilling points that meet your handles. There is no right and wrong way to place the knobs and pulls on your kitchen cabinets. Place your handles in the wrong site and the room will seem out of kilter.

Most people attach cabinet pulls or handles to the stile. Some companies place knobs a little higher or lower on the stile than others with the range typically between 2 and 4 from the bottom or top edge of the door and some center hardware vertically on the stile rather than place it towards the top or bottom of the door.
