There are usually two options for cabinet box construction.
Particle board a composite material made of wood chips shavings and sawdust that are packed together and extruded is cheaper to use than hardwood. Cabinet grade plywood tends to be 3 4 inch thick and may be veneered on one side with inexpensive wood such as birch.
