Putting Crown Molding On Kitchen Cabinets

Measure out and cut a length of crown molding that is at least a few inches longer than the side of your cabinet.
Provide a nailing surface for crown moulding by attaching solid wood mounting strips to the top edges of the cabinets. Installing the molding helps to prevent dust from accumulating on top of the cabinets and does not leave a gap. Use a sharp pencil for making all marks. Repeat this process with another piece of crown molding.
Cut strips of straight 3 4 in x 1 1 2 in wood to fit the front and sides of each cabinet. How to install crown molding on kitchen cabinets use a straight edge to mark where the bottom of the crown moulding will sit on the cabinet face frame. Set the miter saw to a 45 degree angle cut. Next hold up the piece to the side of the cabinet flush against the wall and mark where you ll make a 45 degree cut for the corner.

If desired you can nail or glue the crown molding directly onto your cabinet boxes. Measure and mark the front section of crown molding to the cabinet width. Installing crown on cabinets starts with the longest piece first. Mark all sides of the cabinet onto which you will be attaching crown moulding.
Crown molding is simply the decorative piece that covers the top of your kitchen cabinets. Use one long strip for a row of cabinets the same depth then apply wood glue to each strip nail it in place and let dry. However for a sturdier approach you should install framing along the cabinet tops. This can be as simple as a length of 1 x 2 in 2 5 x 5 cm furring strip cut to length and glued along the tops of the cabinets flush with the edges.
