A good tile installed properly will last a long time. But it works either way. It was costly to have marble flooring honed and sealed every few years so i picked out bamboo flooring from home depot to replace my old marble tile floors. Just make sure the durock or tile backer is down first.
You cannot do a furniture style cabinet either without having a finished floor under it. The cheapskate contractor decided to save a few bucks and not tile under the island. We tiled under the cabinets when we remodeled our kitchen. The price difference for us between doing under the cabinets and not was negligible.
I also prefer the furniture look for cabinets where the cabinets have feet and you can see under the cabinet. They laid it out wrong so the island wouldn t cover the untiled space that they filled in with concrete. Yet the flooring still needs to be replaced. Live load temporary weight will also have to be considered.
