How To Paint Timber Kitchen Cabinets

You may be tempted to flip the cabinet.
Allow them to dry thoroughly. If your surface is mdf varnished wood or melamine you can use the dulux difficult surface primer. Use an oil based primer for the first coat and then you can paint kitchen cabinets with water based latex paint without worrying about moisture absorption. Paint all cabinets front and back applying a thin amount of paint but not too thin.
Remove the lacquer by rubbing your cabinets dry. Make sure the cabinets and doors are clean and dry. For this project it took three coats to turn the cabinets from orange to white. You want a smooth thin coat.
Depending on the surface and the paint chosen you may need to apply a wood or melamine primer. After cleaning it s time to roughen things up. Start this process by scrubbing your cabinets to get rid of any grease or residue. If the paint is too thick it will pool up in the corners and drip off the edges.

Wash the roller in water and dry with an old towel or cloth. Wipe your cabinets dry with paper towels or a clean cloth. Clean all of the surfaces to be repainted with a solution made from one part trisodium phosphate and four parts water. Sand these areas to bare wood and spot prime with a stain killing primer sealer before repainting.
Rinse but do not soak the cabinets. The first rule of cabinet repainting. Your cabinets will be touch dry in two hours but you shouldn t apply your second coat of laminate paint until six hours later. Use a small roller for larger surface areas and a brush to cut into corners and details starting from the back of the cabinets.
After you ve removed the majority of the lacquer let your cabinets air dry for 6 12 hours. Apply paint to the cabinetry using the same technique.
